Praise The Lord And Load Up On Ammunition.

And then the bullhorn crackles
And the captain tackles
With the problems and the how’s and why’s
And he can see no reasons
‘Cause there are no reasons
What reason do you need to die

– Bob Geldof, “I Don’t Like Mondays

I’ve spent the weekend trying to come up with a good way to write about the horrors in New Zealand, but it’s still eluding me. There is nothing to learn from this horror other than you are on your own. You are foolish if you expect someone else to come your aid in a situation like this. They’ll show up, but they will show up THIRTY SIX MINUTES after the shooting starts.

The Muslims praying in their mosque relied on the state to protect them.

The state failed.

The people of New Zealand relied on their tough gun laws to prevent this from happening in their country.

The gun laws failed.

After the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting, a friend of mine who works in the Israeli security services mentioned to me on Facebook that he was amazed that there was not one person armed in the synagogue on that fateful day. Churches, mosques, temples and synagogues are centers of culture, and so they become targets in a clash of cultures.

While I have a laundry list of complaints with the Muslim faith, if you’re the type to shoot up a house of worship, ANY house of worship, I want you off my team, and if you don’t go, I will kick you out myself.

In the meantime, I will turn my eyes towards heaven, but keep my head on a swivel.
