The Drunk Uncle Problem

You do everything the right way. You stay in Condition Yellow  when you’re outside the house. You get your concealed carry license, and you carry a gun everywhere it’s permissible by law. You have a flashlight, medical gear and less-lethal on you at all times. You keep in shape so you could run 400 yards at a moment’s notice. You do everything you should do to keep yourself and your family safe.

And then one day, a friend of a friend invites another friend over to a party you host, and it all goes downhill from there

The Fort Myers Police Department says it responded to a Shot Spotter alert near Armstrong Court and Henderson Avenue at around 10 p.m. They found around 150 people leaving a large house party, which FMPD says appears to have been a Super Bowl party, and a man in a ditch suffering from gunshot wounds.

Okay granted, that is not the greatest of neighborhoods, and 150 people is one heck of a house party, but you get the idea. We tend to think that a lethal force encounter will be with some Randolorian on the street, and we forget that there are snakes living in our backyard. “Don’t go to stupid places to do stupid things with stupid people at stupid times” is 100% true, but sometimes, the stupid shows up on your doorstep in the form of an inebriated relative or a friend with anger management issues, and now you have to deal with it on your home turf.
