SUMMARY:Low Light Defensive Encounters - March 29th
DESCRIPTION:Low Light Defensive Encounters\nThere’s no such thing as ‘street crime’ for the armed citizen\, rather\, there’s only ‘parking lot crime’. – Tom Givens \nNighttime and other low light situations limit our ability to spot trouble before it becomes a problem for us. This is just one of the many reasons why crooks use it to their advantage\, and prey on innocent people under the cloak of darkness.  \nUnfortunately\, there are a lot of myths around how a low light environment works for and against those who would do us harm. The vast majority of low light instruction comes from a military or law enforcement background\, using techniques which may or may not be applicable to the armed citizen.  \nThis class\, however\, is designed to give the armed citizen the knowledge and skills they need to come out on top of an encounter in an urban low light environment.  \nTopics covered will include:  \n\nDifferent types of lighting environments and how they affect our vision\nLow light vs no light: Which is more common for the armed citizen?\nGear choices for when it gets dark \nNight sights\, weapon lights\, lasers and red dots \nDefensive flashlight techniques \nDefensive pistol use in a low light environment \n\n \nMandatory training requirements for this class.  \n\nCompletion of at least six hours of post-concealed carry class training\nAbility to draw a pistol from a holster and safely re-holster using one hand\nConstant and consistent application of the four rules of gun safety\n\nGear requirements for this class \n\nA modern\, semi-automatic pistol in 9mm or greater caliber with or without a weapon-mounted light attached \nAt least three magazines for your pistol\nA belt magazine pouch \nA secure and stable gun belt \nA safe and comfortable OWB (outside the waistband) holster for your pistol (IWB and concealed carry ONLY with instructor permission)\nA headlamp flashlight with a red lens and white light\nA bright (300 lumens or greater) tactical flashlight with a tail-mounted activation switch\n200 rounds of FMJ ammunition \nOptional: A rifle\, pistol caliber carbine or shotgun with a weapon-mounted light and 50 rounds of ammunition (rifle/PCC) or 20 rounds of birdshot (shotgun)\nBug spray\, water\, range gear. \n\nClass will be approximately 4-5 hours long and will be held at the Deep50 Gun Range.  \nSpread The Word:ShareFacebookEmailTwitter

SUMMARY:Women-Only Basic Pistol Class - March 9th
DESCRIPTION:Women are the fastest-growing segment of gun owners in the country. More and more women are choosing to exercise their Second Amendment rights and join in on the fun to be found in America’s gun culture.  \nHowever\, the world of firearms can be confusing\, with a bewildering amount of catchphrases and industry-specific terms that can seem quite fearful at times.  \nThis class is designed to calm those fears and ease women into the fun of the shooting sports and safe and confident gun ownership.  \nThe class consists of two parts: A short seminar on how the rules of gun safety apply inside and outside the home and instruction on the basics of marksmanship\, and then instruction on how to safely apply those rules on the range and have fun (lots of fun) while doing so.  \nYour Instructor: \nKevin Creighton is a nationally-recognized firearms writer and instructor. Since 2013\, he has been writing about the best ways for women to enjoy the benefits of American gun culture. Kevin works full-time for the NRA and holds teaching certificates from the NRA\, Rangemaster and Defensive Training International.  \nGear requirements  \n\nA modern\, semi-automatic pistol or revolver \nA spare magazine\nA case or holster for your pistol\n100 rounds of practice (FMJ) ammo\nEye protection\, ear protection\nWater\, bug spray\, sun screen\nA hat with a brim \nClosed-toe shoes \nOpen-neck blouses are STRONGLY discouraged \n\nQuestions? Please contact us. \nSpread The Word:ShareFacebookEmailTwitter

SUMMARY:Self Defense Outside The Home (Pistolcraft 101) - March 1
DESCRIPTION:Self Defense Outside The Home (Pistolcraft 101)\nTake the next step in the journey towards an armed and safe lifestyle \nIf you own a gun\, you are exercising your right to keep arms.\nThis classes teaches you how to bear arms.\nThese days\, personal defense is the #1 reason why people buy guns. A gun and a concealed carry license by themselves\, however\, doesn’t provide you any protection anymore than buying a guitar and some sheet music provides musical talent. This class covers the essentials of using a pistol to defend yourself as you live your everyday life. \nWe keep this three to four-hour class small (just eight students) in order to maximize the 1-1 training opportunities. The instruction is focused on helping you make the transition from being just a gun owner to someone who has the skills and confidence to defend what is most important in your life. \nGear Requirements  \n\nA pistol (.380 ACP or larger caliber)\nAt least two magazines for your pistol\n200 rounds of FMJ practice ammo\nAn Outside the Waistband (OWB) holster. If you do not have one\, this holster fits most compact semi-automatic pistols and will do the job for this class. Please do not bring a Blackhawk Serpa or a soft nylon holster to class. If you have any questions about gear\, email me at kevin@quietlyarmed.com.\nA magazine pouch to store an extra magazine. If you do not have a magazine pouch\, this model will expand to fit just about anything out there.\nEye protection\, ear protection\nWater\, bug spray\, sunscreen\n\nThis class is designed to show people how to make the transition from just have a piece of paper that says you MAY carry a defensive firearm with you to someone who has the skills and confidence to carry on a regular basis. \nTopics covered will include: \n\nHow to get your gun into the fight as fast as possible\nSafe use of a holster\nThe use of a pistol as a defensive firearm\nMaking the shot on-demand\nAdvanced accuracy techniques\n\nAt the completion of this course\, each student will understand how to keep their firearm concealed until it is needed.\nThey will also know how to quickly and effiecently deploy it in a safe manner should the need arise. \nSpread The Word:ShareFacebookEmailTwitter

SUMMARY:Feb 8th: The Cadre Session Five: Well This Is Awkward
DESCRIPTION:Introducing The Cadre Sessions \nEach class in The Cadre Sessions is focused on one essential skill to help make you a better armed citizen. If you haven’t noticed\, though\, a shooting range and the real world bear little resemblance to each other. In the real world\, there are people in the way\, or you may need to move in order to get your shot. Worse still\, you may have the use of just one hand if you need to make the shot\, and it may not be your dominant hand.  \nThis class gets you out of your comfort zone and teaches you how to deal with things like one-handed shooting\, shooting from around cover and dealing with crowds.  \nAll of the Cadre Sessions are less than three hours long and require fewer than 100 rounds of ammo. Class size will be topped at just six people to allow plenty of opportunities for 1-1 instruction.  \nGear Requirements:  \n\nA pistol (9mm/38 Special or larger caliber)\nA spare magazine \nA cover garment such as light jacket or oversized t-shirt \nA holster suitable for concealed carry. SUMMARY:Florida Concealed Carry Class\, January 18th
DESCRIPTION:Florida Concealed Carry Class\n\n\nWhen you’re choosing a concealed carry instructor\, you’re choosing someone who can provide you with the skills to save your life or the life of a loved one. \n\n\n\n\nMy name is Kevin Creighton\, and I run Quietly Armed. I am a full-time professional firearms writer for the National Rifle Association\, and I teach firearms training in the Naples area. I am not your typical “fly by night” firearms instructor. I put in the time and energy into my classes in order to make sure you receive the best possible instruction. Here’s just a few of things that set my classes apart from the others: \nThe state of Florida requires instructor to have just 24 hours of training before they can teach a concealed carry class.\nI have over 1\,100 hours of firearms instruction.  \nState law says that if you can pull the trigger of a gun and make the gun go “bang!\,” you have enough training to defend your life.\nI teach you how to place your shots on-target when literally everything depends on your marksmanship. \nOther instructors talk about their military or law enforcement experience.\nThat’s great\, but how is that relevant to you in your daily life? \nI’m just like you. I enjoy the relaxed lifestyle we have here in Naples\, and I want you and your loved ones to keep enjoying your lives and to keep you safe from those who would do us harm. \n\nMethods of Concealed Cany\nFlorida Firearms Law\nPersonal Safety Tips Choosing A Defensive Firearm\nBasic Pistol Marksmanship\n\nClass is limited to 12 students maximum \nStudents will qualify for not only their Florida concealed carry permit\, but have a chance to practice other tests and drills as well. \n\n\nSpread The Word:ShareFacebookEmailTwitter

SUMMARY:January 12: The Cadre Session Four
DESCRIPTION:The Cadre Session Four: Time And Timing\nIntroducing The Cadre™ \nEach session in The Cadre series is focused on one essential skill to help make you a better armed citizen. The classes are inexpensive and will concentrate on improving and honing one essential technique. After class\, you’ll receive a drill that you can use to further hone your skills at your next range session.  \nThese classes are designed to maximize your training time and resources and put you on a path to lifetime enjoyment of the shooting sports and safely enjoy the armed lifestyle.  \nThe Cadre Session 4: Time And Timing \n\nPrerequisites: A valid concealed carry license\nGear Needed: See below\nClass Date: Sunday\, January 12th\, 1pm\nLocation: Fellowship Church\, Ave Maria\n\nI’m very happy to be the first trainer in the area to integrate The Complete Combatant‘s innovative Image Based Decisional Drills into a self-defense curriculum. This system is a great way to bring many of the benefits of force-on-force training to my students\, without having to deal with the specialized training gear. If you carry concealed\, or are an average citizen concerned about your safety\, this class will help you “thaw the freeze reflex” and act quickly and correctly in a life or death situation.\nGetting our defensive firearm into play is a timing issue. Time is distance\, and distance more options. The sooner we spot a lethal force problem headed our way\, the sooner we can make a plan to deal with it or avoid it altogether. Knowing what trouble looks like\, though\, can be a problem\, as criminals go to great lengths to confuse their intentions and get close to us.  \nTopics Covered In This Class \n\nSpotting pre-attack indicators\nMicro-ranging and managing unknown contacts\nMaking time and distance work in our favor\n\nThis class is less than three hours long and requires no ammunition or firearms. This is a decision-making class that is ideal for anyone\, not just people who carry a defensive firearm. Class size will be topped at just eight  people to allow plenty of opportunities for 1-1 instruction.  \nGear Requirements:  \n\nNone\n\nIf there are any questions\, please email me at kevin@quietlyarmed.com.  \nSpread The Word:ShareFacebookEmailTwitter

SUMMARY:Intro To Defensive Shotgun\, Nov 30\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Intro To Defensive Shotgun\nThe defensive shotgun might be the most effective home defense firearm around\, but it is not a “fire and forget” sort of thing. Unlocking the true potential of a defensive shotgun takes some knowledge and familiarity with your gun and the ammunition it uses. This four hour class will show you just how effective a tactical shotgun can be in a home defense situation and give you the skills you need for optimal use of your scattergun when literally everything is on the line. \nTopics that this class will cover include: \n\nHistory of the defensive shotgun\nDifferences between a hunting shotgun and a tactical shotgun\nShotguns vs rifles for home defense\nGear and accessory choices\nSafe storage and deployment of the shotgun\nControlling recoil for fast follow-up shots\nReloading and ammo management\n\nGear Requirements:\nEither a pump action or semi-automatic shotgun is suitable for this class. The tactical or defensive use of the shotgun is radically different from its use in bird hunting or clay pigeon sports. As such\, it demands a different setup compared to a hunting gun. \nYour shotgun should have a shortened or adjustable stock for maximum effectiveness. If your shotgun has a tube magazine\, you should also have some method of storing additional ammo on the gun such as a butt sleeve or a receiver-mounted shotshell carrier. If you have a box magazine-fed shotgun\, bring at least two magazines as well as some way to store a magazine on your beltline. Shotgun slings with ammo loops are not recommended for this class. \n“FIREARMS” SUCH AS THE MOSSBERG SHOCKWAVE OR REMINGTON TAC-14 ORSHOTGUNS WITH A PISTOL GRIP AND NO STOCK ARE NOT ALLOWEDIN THIS CLASS \nThe effective range of those guns is far shorter than a shotgun with a stock\, and as such\, they are not compatible with what the techniques taught in this class. There will be no refunds issued if you show up to class with inappropriate firearms or ammunition. \nThe barrel length of your shotgun should be between 18 and 22 inches. Barrels longer than 22 inches will be cumbersome and awkward in our context. A shotgun with a barrel and a stock less than 18 inches long is a Class III firearm. If you legally possess a short barrel shotgun\, feel free to use it in class. \nAmmunition Requirements\nYou will need 100 rounds or more of birdshot. We prefer #4\, #5 or #6 shot for training use. Really small shot\, like #7 ½ or #8 spreads out really quickly. Larger shot\, like #4\, more closely mimics buckshot at the distances we will be using. \nPLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY STEEL SHOT TO THIS CLASS \nIf you show up with shotshells full of steel shot\, you won’t shoot. It’s as simple as that. We do this for safety reasons\, and it’s just another one of the ways that a tactical shotgun differs from a hunting shotgun. \nYou will need approximately 20 rounds of buckshot. We prefer standard load eight or nine pellet 00 Buck. Magnum loads only increase the recoil and will beat you up to no advantage. Standard velocity 00 Buck will do just fine. If you want absolute maximum performance\, I suggest Federal Premium 8 pellet 00 Buck with the FliteControl wad. \nIf you have any questions about gear or ammunition prior to the class\, please email kevin@quietlyarmed.com. \n\n\nTOPICS COVERED\n\nHistory of the defensive shotgun\nDifferences between a hunting shotgun and a tactical shotgun\nShotguns vs rifles for home defense\nGear and accessory choices\nSafe storage and deployment of the shotgun\nControlling recoil for fast follow-up shots\nReloading and ammo management\n\nStudents will learn the following: \n\nThe history of the tactical shotgun and how it is different from a shotgun for hunting\nThe advantages and disadvantages of shotgun sighting methods\nHow to manage the recoil of their shotguns for fast follow-ups shots and effective target transitions\nHow to manage ammunition and keep the shotgun in the fight\nHave an opportunity to shoot a Federal law enforcement shotgun qualification (for instructional purposes only)\n\n\n\n\n\nSpread The Word:ShareFacebookEmailTwitter

SUMMARY:Intro to Defensive Carbine\, Nov. 2\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Intro to Defensive Carbine\nOnce vilified as an “assault weapon\,” the AR-15 is\, in fact\, a very effective tool for home defense. Light\, easy to handle and with little appreciable recoil\, it can be quickly adapted to fit each user in ways other rifles cannot. \nThis four hour class will cover the application of an AR-15 to the thorny problem of home defense. Students will learn how to optimize their defensive carbines for use inside the home\, how to use a sling\, as well as learn which accessories are “must haves” for a home defense carbine. This class is specifically designed for all the gun owners out there who bought an AR-15 in the past few years for home defense (a good idea) but then don’t know what the next step is. Well\, this is it. \nIn addition to this\, the class will cover the different types of close-quarters optics and how to keep your rifle in the action. \nThe live-fire portion will cover zeroing your gun\, understanding and overcoming mechanical sight offset and speed and accuracy at common home defense distances. \n\nHistory and operation of the AR-15\nAdvantages and disadvantages of the AR-15 for home defense\nChoosing an optic for your rifle\nOther accessory choices\nSetup and sling use\nStance\, grip and sight alignment\nZeroing your sighting system\nEngaging targets at common self defense distances\nUse of cover\n\nSpread The Word:ShareFacebookEmailTwitter

SUMMARY:Self Defense Outside The Home (Pistolcraft 101)

SUMMARY:Intro To Defensive Shotgun
DESCRIPTION:  \nIntro To Defensive Shotgun\nThe defensive shotgun might be the most effective home defense firearm around\, but it is not a “fire and forget” sort of thing.

SUMMARY:Home Defense Carbine
DESCRIPTION:Home Defense Carbine\nOnce vilified as an “assault weapon\,” the AR-15 is\, in fact\, a very effective tool for home defense. Light\, easy to handle and with little appreciable recoil\, it can be quickly adapted to fit each user in ways other rifles cannot. \nThis four hour class will cover the application of an AR-15 to the thorny problem of home defense. Students will learn how to optimize their carbines for use inside the home\, how to use a sling\, as well as learn which accessories are “must haves” for a home defense carbine. This class is specifically designed for all the gun owners out there who bought an AR-15 in the past few years for home defense (a good idea) but then don’t know what the next step is.
