SUMMARY:Intro to Defensive Carbine\, Nov. 2\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Intro to Defensive Carbine\nOnce vilified as an “assault weapon\,” the AR-15 is\, in fact\, a very effective tool for home defense. Light\, easy to handle and with little appreciable recoil\, it can be quickly adapted to fit each user in ways other rifles cannot. \nThis four hour class will cover the application of an AR-15 to the thorny problem of home defense. Students will learn how to optimize their defensive carbines for use inside the home\, how to use a sling\, as well as learn which accessories are “must haves” for a home defense carbine. This class is specifically designed for all the gun owners out there who bought an AR-15 in the past few years for home defense (a good idea) but then don’t know what the next step is. Well\, this is it. \nIn addition to this\, the class will cover the different types of close-quarters optics and how to keep your rifle in the action. \nThe live-fire portion will cover zeroing your gun\, understanding and overcoming mechanical sight offset and speed and accuracy at common home defense distances. \n\nHistory and operation of the AR-15\nAdvantages and disadvantages of the AR-15 for home defense\nChoosing an optic for your rifle\nOther accessory choices\nSetup and sling use\nStance\, grip and sight alignment\nZeroing your sighting system\nEngaging targets at common self defense distances\nUse of cover\n\nSpread The Word:ShareFacebookEmailTwitter

SUMMARY:Nov 16th: The Cadre Session Two Encore
DESCRIPTION:The Cadre Session Two: Automatic Accuracy\nIntroducing The Cadre Sessions™ \nEach session in The Cadre series is focused on one essential skill to help make you a better armed citizen. The classes are inexpensive and will concentrate on improving and honing one essential technique. After class\, you’ll receive a drill that you can use to further hone your skills at your next range session.  \nThese classes are designed to maximize your training time and resources and put you on a path to lifetime enjoyment of the shooting sports and safely enjoy the armed lifestyle.  \nThe Cadre Session Two Encore: Automatic Accuracy\n\nPrerequisites: A valid concealed carry license\nGear Needed: See below\nClass Date: Saturday\, November 16th\, 9am\n\nThis is a repeat of a previous class to allow others to join in. \nThe purpose of this class is to dial in the fundamentals of trigger and grip and create the building blocks of automaticity. \nWhat is automaticity?  \n“The quality or fact of being performed involuntarily or unconsciously\, as a reflex\, innate process\, or ingrained habit.”  \nThink about the last time you almost had a traffic accident. Not an actual accident\, but rather\, one that you were able to avoid. How did you do that? Did you ever\, at some point\, think to yourself\, “Oh my goodness\, that car just ran a red light. I need to take my foot off the gas\, move it to the left and apply it with all my might to the brake pedal!”  \nNo\, of course you didn’t\, you just did it. You did it because when it comes to defensive driving\, you have automaticity. This class is designed to help create those same automatic processes when it comes to your defensive pistol. \nTopics Covered In This Class \n\nReview of the Draw\nStance Doesn’t Matter… Until It Does \nGrip Theory \nTrigger Warning \n\nThis class is less than three hours long and requires fewer than 100 rounds of ammo. Class size will be topped at just six people to allow plenty of opportunities for 1-1 instruction.  \nGear Requirements:  \n\nA pistol (9mm/38 Special or larger caliber)\nA spare magazine \nA cover garment such as light jacket or oversized t-shirt \nA holster suitable for concealed carry. Please do not bring a Blackhawk! Serpa holster or soft nylon holster such as an Uncle Mike’s or similar holster.\nA sturdy gun belt\n\nIf there are any questions\, please email me at kevin@quietlyarmed.com.  \nSpread The Word:ShareFacebookEmailTwitter

Getting your hits before you get hit\, well\, that’s even greater. The previous session\, Automatic Accuracy\, covered hitting your target. This session covers doing it in a timely manner. From getting your gun into play from concealment to increasing your shot to shot split time to keeping your head in the game in order to minimize mistakes\, this class is all about the efficient application of force. \nTopics Covered In This Class \n\nSpeeding up the draw \nIncreasing followup shot speed\nTask loading and interruptions \n\nThis class is less than three hours long and requires fewer than 100 rounds of ammo. SUMMARY:Intro To Defensive Shotgun\, Nov 30\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Intro To Defensive Shotgun\nThe defensive shotgun might be the most effective home defense firearm around\, but it is not a “fire and forget” sort of thing. Unlocking the true potential of a defensive shotgun takes some knowledge and familiarity with your gun and the ammunition it uses. This four hour class will show you just how effective a tactical shotgun can be in a home defense situation and give you the skills you need for optimal use of your scattergun when literally everything is on the line. \nTopics that this class will cover include: \n\nHistory of the defensive shotgun\nDifferences between a hunting shotgun and a tactical shotgun\nShotguns vs rifles for home defense\nGear and accessory choices\nSafe storage and deployment of the shotgun\nControlling recoil for fast follow-up shots\nReloading and ammo management\n\nGear Requirements:\nEither a pump action or semi-automatic shotgun is suitable for this class. The tactical or defensive use of the shotgun is radically different from its use in bird hunting or clay pigeon sports. As such\, it demands a different setup compared to a hunting gun. \nYour shotgun should have a shortened or adjustable stock for maximum effectiveness. If your shotgun has a tube magazine\, you should also have some method of storing additional ammo on the gun such as a butt sleeve or a receiver-mounted shotshell carrier. If you have a box magazine-fed shotgun\, bring at least two magazines as well as some way to store a magazine on your beltline. Shotgun slings with ammo loops are not recommended for this class. \n“FIREARMS” SUCH AS THE MOSSBERG SHOCKWAVE OR REMINGTON TAC-14 ORSHOTGUNS WITH A PISTOL GRIP AND NO STOCK ARE NOT ALLOWEDIN THIS CLASS \nThe effective range of those guns is far shorter than a shotgun with a stock\, and as such\, they are not compatible with what the techniques taught in this class. There will be no refunds issued if you show up to class with inappropriate firearms or ammunition. \nThe barrel length of your shotgun should be between 18 and 22 inches. Barrels longer than 22 inches will be cumbersome and awkward in our context. A shotgun with a barrel and a stock less than 18 inches long is a Class III firearm. If you legally possess a short barrel shotgun\, feel free to use it in class. \nAmmunition Requirements\nYou will need 100 rounds or more of birdshot. We prefer #4\, #5 or #6 shot for training use. Really small shot\, like #7 ½ or #8 spreads out really quickly. Larger shot\, like #4\, more closely mimics buckshot at the distances we will be using. \nPLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY STEEL SHOT TO THIS CLASS \nIf you show up with shotshells full of steel shot\, you won’t shoot. It’s as simple as that. We do this for safety reasons\, and it’s just another one of the ways that a tactical shotgun differs from a hunting shotgun. \nYou will need approximately 20 rounds of buckshot. We prefer standard load eight or nine pellet 00 Buck. Magnum loads only increase the recoil and will beat you up to no advantage. Standard velocity 00 Buck will do just fine. If you want absolute maximum performance\, I suggest Federal Premium 8 pellet 00 Buck with the FliteControl wad. \nIf you have any questions about gear or ammunition prior to the class\, please email kevin@quietlyarmed.com. \n\n\nTOPICS COVERED\n\nHistory of the defensive shotgun\nDifferences between a hunting shotgun and a tactical shotgun\nShotguns vs rifles for home defense\nGear and accessory choices\nSafe storage and deployment of the shotgun\nControlling recoil for fast follow-up shots\nReloading and ammo management\n\nStudents will learn the following: \n\nThe history of the tactical shotgun and how it is different from a shotgun for hunting\nThe advantages and disadvantages of shotgun sighting methods\nHow to manage the recoil of their shotguns for fast follow-ups shots and effective target transitions\nHow to manage ammunition and keep the shotgun in the fight\nHave an opportunity to shoot a Federal law enforcement shotgun qualification (for instructional purposes only)\n\n\n\n\n\nSpread The Word:ShareFacebookEmailTwitter
