A New Chapter. Thirty Eight of Them, Actually.
There are some big changes in store for Quietly Armed. The first is, after five or so years of on-again, off-again work, my debut novel is now available on Amazon. I put a lot of effort into this book, researching narco gangs in Mexico and some of America’s most-secret military units.
My inspiration to write this book was that while I really enjoy reading authors like John D. Macdonald, Robert B. Parker and others, those authors would often stray into areas that conflicted with my faith. I loved reading about men acting with honor and righting the wrongs of the world, but at a certain point, the prose of these books would take a turn for the lurid and depart from my deeply held beliefs.
So I decided to do something about it.
“Salvation” is my debut novel. It’s a detective/thriller novel set in Southwest Florida and Miami. I wrote it from what I like to call a “faith-adjacent” point of view. It’s a story of a man struggling to find his place in this often-confusing world, a man who is determined to bring justice back into the world and at the same time discovers that, yes, there is more to this life than what happens in the here and now.
The launch party for the book will be on Tuesday, December 9th at 7pm at Oil Well Craft Beer. I’ll be here, as will Betsy Barnes, the cover artist along with a cigar bar. And yes, of course, signed copies will be available.
I really hope you’ll enjoy reading this novel, and if you do, please remember to leave a review. It means a lot, as the books that Amazon recommends are the ones with the good reviews.
Going Dark
Secondly, because of the effort I’ll need to put into making this novel a success, I am shutting down training until the fall of next year. I’m still available for private lessons, but I need to channel my energy into promoting and marketing this book for the foreseeable future. I really, really enjoy helping people live safer lives and shoot a little bit better and I hope to see all of you in a class once things start up again.
The Work Still Continues, Though
The NRA furloughed me back in October, but that doesn’t mean I’ve been sitting around the house moping. My first article for Lipsey’s published last week (look for more from them soon) and I’ll have other articles dropping soon in other publications as well. The best way to keep track of what’s going on is to follow the Quietly Armed page and my author page on Facebook. Look for more content from me very soon.
