Normalcy Bias Is Far Too Normal

I live in a small community that’s literally built around a large Catholic church. It’s full of “good people” who love God, raise families and regularly vote Republican.

Oh, and there was a domestic violence incident here today where one person was shot

The victim got involved in someone else’s domestic violence situation. I don’t know if he was related to anyone involved or not, but the fact is, he got involved, and he was shot in the process. Did he save that woman’s life? Quite possibly, and that’s rather cool.

But do you think he woke up that morning and said to himself, “You know what? I’m probably going to get involved in a lethal force situation today. I should have a gun on me as I go about my morning routine.”

Yeah, I don’t think so either, yet he did have that exact thing happen to him.

We can talk about Farnam’s Rules all we want, but at the end of the day, we just don’t know when it’ll be our turn to play the game of “You Bet Your LIfe On Your Gunfighting Skills,” and when it’s your turn, the stakes you’ll be playing for are everything you hold dear.

Ante up.
