The Call Is Coming From Inside The House!
Or, I live in a nice neighborhood and I don’t do illegal drugs. Therefore, I don’t need to worry about home invasions!
Except that you do. I talk about “The Drunk Uncle” problem in my unarmed self defense classes. You know, that guy you know who’s a lot of fun to be around, right up to the point where he has one too many drinks and turns into a mean drunk who starts fighting everybody. All the cameras and locks in the world won’t help you if you’re the one who lets the problem in.
Or consider this situation that I saw on Facebook today:
I had a student who was forced to use a firearm in self defense. His daughter’s abusive boyfriend was in his house and picked up a chair and started threatening his wife. His violent encounter walked into his home through the front door.
This is just one of the reasons why I am not a fan of “tactical furniture” and staging guns around the house. Those sorts of things pre-supposes you’ll have enough of a warning to run to the furniture, open it, grab your gun and deal with the problem.
Or you could use the gun you have on you, the same concealed carry gun you had on you when you walked out of the house that day. No plan of battle survives contact with the enemy, and that goes for your home defense plan as well. Be ready to improvise, which means you’ll need to be ready, not be unarmed.
